The Spring/Summer 2021/2022 Hair Trends You Need to Know About

A woman with curtain bangs.

After a long Winter of hibernation (and potential lockdown home hair disasters) Spring and Summer are the perfect seasons for a hair makeover. A seasonal change often stirs up a desire to update your look, and rightly so. Whatever your hair desires may be, we are happy to help you make a fresh change. From blunt ends to bobs, face-framing layers to Farrah Fawcetts, here are our favourite looks and trend predictions heading into the warmer months.

Face Framing Layers

This Spring/Summer we expect to see lots of face framing layers. Not only are they super versatile, they can be added on to any length. We can cut your layers specifically to suit your face – hitting levels like your cheekbones, chin and collarbones. Layers give lovely movement to hair and are easy to wear with undone waves or blown-out smooth hair.

Curtain Bangs

Everyone’s talking about curtain bangs. Elongated and subtle, they make for a perfect low-maintenance fringe with a soft look. Curtain bangs are easy to style – they can be set in place or pinned back for a cute look, and can be grown out faster than shorter bangs. Flattering on most faces, they’re also a great way to change your look without doing anything too drastic.

Sunshine Blonde

Blondes have gone through many phases – platinum, icy, silver, the list goes on. Golden, honey blonde is quickly becoming the new favourite, and we aren’t mad about it. We suggest highlights that mimic the natural lightness in your hair for a beautiful, low-maintenance look that goes well with beach-inspired styled hair or natural waves.

Blunt Ends

Strong, blunt cuts can make for a striking look. Blunt cuts mean your hair is cut the same length all around and sharp structured edges can suit most face shapes, looking fresh and well-maintained. Blunt fringes are also in and look great with both short bobs and long cuts - suiting all hair textures and lengths.

The Shag

The shag is back. Popular in the 80s, the shag is a heavily layered haircut with face framing strands and lots of texture. It’s a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, a little bit old school and it’s very cool. The modern shag is choppy and has lots of volume. Made to be effortless, shags also look great when dried naturally - bonus!

Chunky Highlights

Chunky highlights were a hit in the early 2000s and like the shag, have also had a bit of a resurgence. The ‘money piece’ is a bold look where you incorporate a pop of highlights right at your part line in the front. More subtle and seamless looks can also be created with softer colours. Well on trend, chunky highlights are a great way to change up your colour with minimal maintenance.

The Farrah Fawcett

Named after the actor and model, the Farrah Fawcett was a hallmark of the 1970s. The look boasts parted curtain bangs and waved, curled or feathery lengths, and is all about volume. The Farrah Fawcett is easy to recreate at home – simply curl your hair away from your face (or use a round brush and hair dryer for a similar effect) and shake your hair well for a voluminous bounce. Youthful and feminine, it’s a perfect summer look.

Summer Red

Warmer hair tones are getting their time in the sun! Auburn is a rich red-brown that flatters most complexions, and vibrant copper reds are great for medium to deep skin tones. If you’re not sure about going 100% red, adding warm gingery hues or a touch of copper will add vibrancy to your look - especially after a long Winter. Reds do require a bit of maintenance – so we recommend seeing your hair stylist regularly to keep the brightness and using colour-protecting products at home.

Square Bob Cut

A low maintenance, classy option which is also a statement - this look involves minimal layers and no angling. The strong bob is versatile and works well for any hair texture, but is particularly good for fine hair. A great bob cut will mean you can wear it smooth and chic or tousled and sexy - easy and effective!

Close-Cut Pixie Crop

A great cut for the contemporary woman on the go. A close-cut pixie tapers close to the scalp and highlights your features. For fine hair, we can cut a pixie look that adds dimension and boosts the volume of your hair. A pixie cut is a simple wash-and-go style that gives a classy edge to your look.
