5 Easy Ways to Style your Hair When it’s Too Hot to Handle
Summer comes with a host of great things – long days, warm nights, holidays, hot weather, and this year even the reopening of hair salons after a long lockdown without hair and beauty appointments. However, we all know summer can also mean humidity hair, sweat and being away from home and our usual bathroom armoury. Sometimes it’s just too hot to have your hair out, and the last thing you want to do is use hot styling tools. Never fear - clever cuts and styles can help keep your hair off your face, meaning you can be both cute and cool (literally) in the summer heat. Here are some of our favourites….
Braids
Braids are a quintessential summer look. Whether you’re camping, brunching with friends, dancing at a festival, or just out of the ocean, braids are both super cute and practical. Mix it up and try French braids, or face framing braids with the two front pieces of your hair. And if you want to wake up with insta-curls – French braid your hair after washing (when it is 90% dry) and sleep in the braids overnight. Pro-tip: apply a dry shampoo to absorb oil, remove any sweat and add volume.
Pixie Cut
A pixie cut is both functional and stylish. It gives you a dynamic look, enhances your bone structure and frames your face, yet doesn’t make your mornings hard. Pixie cuts will keep your hair off your face, and there are a range of options to best suit your look and face shape – think choppy, wavy or a pixie bob.
High Ponytail
The humble ponytail. It’s a look most of us learnt from a young age and has seen us through everything from running races to nights on the town. A high pony can be a super sleek and easy go-to, both day and night. For a level up – wrap some hair around the base to hide the tie, and add a bobby pin to the base of the ponytail pointing up to add some extra height. And an extra bonus – if you slick back your hair in the front you can protect your part from getting sunburnt.
Short Bob
A short bob makes for fuss-free summer styling and low maintenance management. Bobs can be worn with natural curls, or slick straight, and can even be braided up for your outdoor adventures or events. And the extra great thing about a bob – it has super minimal drying time – meaning it’s a perfect cut for the water babies out there. This summer we recommend you embrace your natural hair texture and just add a little volume spray to the roots and ends.
Top Knot/ Updo
A top knot is a hair look you can always count on. For a carefree summer look, loosen and pull out a few pieces to frame your face. An updo is a super classy and practical choice for casual days or summer occasions such as weddings. There are many options for pinning your hair back, including a messy twist, sleek chignon or French braid updo, and you can always dress it up with some cute clips or an eye-catching headband.
